Back in the Groove

Vacation is over and we are getting back into our groove. After our relaxing week it was a little difficult to get moving this morning. I sent M downstairs to start on her math and when I came downstairs a few minutes later she was nowhere to be found. I found her engaged in a game of Othello with our house guest. I let her finish because playing Othello is applied logic and deductive reasoning. She won. Then we moved on to our day.

M continued working on the 3 times table for math. She worked on cursive writing and spelling for language arts. She learned what Judges do for Social Studies.

B finished his long division unit along with review of basic facts and finding the area of different shapes. Dictionary skills are on deck for language arts.

They both started our money management course. We are using Dave Ramsey Jr. as our tutorial. Since they are saving for a Wii this ties in nicely. They have set up their goal board and chore chart. They have their envelopes ready to go (Save, spend, and give) and they are off and running towards their goal of a Wii, extra controllers, and Wii fit.

The day was rounded out with swim and gym class. I continue to be impressed with the gym teacher. He really provides a well rounded program of sports and physical challenges. Today involved an obstacle course. Fancy footwork through a ladder, jump to hit the x on the wall, hop over the hurdles, sit on a scooter and pull yourself across the floor (alternating front facing and backwards to work different muscles), through the hula hoops and start again. Then they did some scooter races involving teamwork. Legs laced through your partners arms and scoot across the floor. Another race involved laying on your stomach on the scooter and going across with your partner. You had to stay together. There were lots of giggles and all out laughter today.
